A ninth win of the season for Paul Hopkins at the latest round of the GDW time trial series means that he has now reached the maximum score of 450 points in the championship.  On a hot and humid evening, Paul’s very fast time of 46.10 saw him finish nearly two and half minutes clear of second-placed Vince Hounsome.  Simon Barfoot was just eight seconds slower than Vince while Charles Rees recorded yet another PB for fourth.  Other riders who recorded personal best times for the course were Nigel Brown (51.47) and William Wilson (52.08) and the evening’s fastest woman rider Emma Bradley (56.49).

Times and points are here

Last weekend saw two 50 mile time trials with several GDW members taking part.  At the Wessex RC event in South Dorset, Simon Barfoot finished in 2 hours 3 minutes with Vince Hounsome on 2.04.27.  At the Bristol South CC’s tt, held near Cirencester, Stuart Kerton, Don Tanner and Steve way all improved their PBs for the distance while Sarah Roberts was pleased with her time at her first attempt at a 50.  James Chant struggled home and decided that he will be sticking to the Frome ‘5’ from now on.

Round 4 of the British Mountain Bike Series was held at Crow Hill near Ringwood last weekend.  Paul Hopkins (riding for the Offcamber team) did very well to finish 7th in the Masters Men category with recent Wheelers recruit Emma Bradley (Team Torq) an excellent third in the Masters Women race.  Andy Shaw of Wheels Cycles finished 13th in the Veterans Men race riding for the Raleigh Avanti team while Junior rider Tom Brown suffered a nasty face-first crash in his race and will be out of action for a while.
