This Saturday looks to be warm and sunny with a gentle westerly breeze and should be at least 10c cooler than last week. You’ll still need the factor 50 on as the sun is still pretty strong.
There are 3 routes on offer and they all head west this week. Each route has options for a mid ride coffee stop if you need to replenish food/water. All routes head towards Bourton and on to Bruton and Castle Cary via the Hunters Lodge. After Castle Cary the whites head through north and south Barrow to Sparkford where they can stop at the Haynes motor museum cafe. At Castle Cary the Pink and Blues head then head to Lydford on Fosse via Hornblotton and West Lydford. The blues turn off for Sparkford via Keinton Mandevilla and Babcary where they can also stop for refreshments at Haynes motor museum cafe. The pink route route carries on to Somerton where there is Alfredos and Buttercross cafes if they want to stop for cake/coffee. They then carry on to Ilchester and on to Mudford, West Camel and South Cadbury. All routes then follow the same route from South Cadbury back to Gillingham via Horsington and Buckhorn Weston
Meet at 9.00 am at the Wheels car park, Station Road, Gillingham. Please ensure you download your chosen route to your GPS device, and remember to bring your ride essentials, particularly sufficient liquid refreshments.
There is nothing to stop a group splitting into a ‘light’ and a ‘dark’ group, and a slower group can take on a longer route or a faster group ride a shorter route. All rides are no drop rides but please select a group suited to your ability!
Pink Route: 60.7 mls, 2713 ft elevation – est speed 28 kmh+ / 17.5 mph +
Blue Route: 49.2 mls, 2303 ft elevation – est speed 24 kmh / 15 mph
White Route: 39.3 mls, 1988 ft elevation – est speed 20 kmh / 12 mph
