It is with great sadness that we learnt that Roger passed away on 8th June following his long battle with ‘the Big C’.
Anyone who has time trialled with the Gillingham Wheelers over the last 15 years or so will know that Roger was a true club stalwart, undertaking the starting and timing duties whenever he was able to. Due to his health battles that changed from almost every week during the TT season, to just a couple of occassions last year.
Roger continued to cycle up until the middle of May, though he had complained about how slow he had become!
In addition to his love of cycling and the encouragement he gave to cyclists of all ages, abilities and experience, he also had a love of his sports cars, and would rock up to the TTs and hill climbs in one of his BMW convertibles.
Thank you for all you did for the Gilligham Wheelers, Roger, and may you rest in peace.
There will be a wake for Roger, probably at The Udder Farm Shop during August, details to be confirmed later.
