The second round of this winter’s mountain bike series took place this morning, at the usual venue of Alfred’s Tower woods.  It was a brilliant race, the leading riders swapping places throughout.  2010 champion Kim Little came through to win in the end, beating Josh Day and Alex Day.
Josh headed the field at the end of lap one, from Kim, Henry Harris, race one winner Andy Parsons and Darren Bunce all close behind.   Kim took the lead on lap two only to have his bike get stuck in a very small gear, dropping him down to fifth.  After a stop to fix the problem, Kim chased back and got back past and into the lead on the fifth/penultimate lap.  By this stage Alex Day, riding singlespeed, had worked his way up from eight at the end of lap one and into third with a series of fast laps.
Henry, Andy and Darren had swapped places at various points during the race and they finished close together in that order.  Sean Watson was seventh, Lawrence Pitman was first junior in eighth while Simon Whitehead was the last unlapped rider in ninth.
The Youth riders used a shortened version of the course, Toby Easby was the first home ahead of Kian Calloway.

On the subject of mountain biking, there will be a GDW trip over to the Cwmcarn mountain bike centre to ride the Twrch Trail on November 20th.  The idea is to go in a minibus with a trailer for the bikes, anyone who is interested then let me know here – jamescbf@btinternet.com
