Appolgies for taking a liberty to make the following charity appeal but…….. on Friday 4th June I set off to ride solo and unsuported the 1700 miles from Gillingham to Monte Carlo and back again in aid of the Help for Heroes charity which aims to provide support for injured servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.

I am aiming to complete this trip in about four weeks and am camping all the way.  The route takes in the Normandy landing beaches before heading diagonally south east from Caen to Lyon and the Alps, making an ascent of the Col de La Bonnett (2800m) before arriving in Nice and Monte Carlo.  One day off for good behaviour and then it’s the return leg via Provence, including Mont Ventoux for the second ascent in two years only this time plus tent etc.  After crossing the Massif Central it’s down hill all the way back to Cherbourg and Gillingham!

If you’d like to donate you can do so on the following web site:

or catch me at the Wednesday night TT (most riders do anyway!) or Saturday morning ride.

Thanks!!
