The first round of the 2009 WTTA Western Hardriders
Time Trial Series on Sunday 8th March 2009 saw four Gillingham and
District Wheelers join a strong field of riders from across the country to take
on the 24 mile hilly route which started at Kington Langley near Chippenham.  Riders were initially helped by a good
tailwind, however at the halfway point riders turned west towards Malmesbury and
paid the price for a helping hand on the outward leg, battling a stiff headwind,
hailstorms and heavy rain all the way to the finish line.  The winning time of 54:10 from Jeff Jones of
Chippenham and District Wheelers was especially impressive given the weather
conditions.   First Gillingham Wheeler was James Chant in a
time of 1:07:09 (41st).  Other times were
John Phillips 1:17:59 (59th), Chris Mullet 1:18:16 (60th)
and First Lady overall was Sarah Roberts with a time of 1:27:42 (61st).

At the event prizes were also awarded for
the 2008 series with Sarah Roberts being the First Lady overall while the club,
represented by Sarah Roberts, James Chant and Chris Mullet achieved fifth
overall in this prestigious and challenging series.
