The first hillclimb of 2011 saw 20 riders tackle the slope of Mere Hollow, which is the most riders the club has had for a hillclimb since the series started.  A strong tailwind helped them all along, with several p.bs set during the evening.  Last year’s hillclimb champion, Kim Little, beat his own course record on his way to winning, his time of 4 minutes 22 seconds lowering the record by five seconds.  Kim finished well celar of James Chant (4.54), Simon Barfoot (4.58) and Simon Rouse, who got under the five minute barrier for the first time with 4.59.
It was a great night for the junior riders present, with all four setting p.bs.  Ashley Martin (Chippenham Wheelers) was second overall with 4.38, ahead of third-placed Josh Day (4.47).  Tom Brown did 5.32 for 13th and Barney Cox finished with 5.54 for 18th.
