2010 tt champion Julian Chown set the fastest time at last night’s time trial.  It was hard work for the 35 riders who turned out, especially through the middle section of Mere-Zeals-Bourton.  Second place went to current points leader Nigel Brown with Charles Rees, back in GDW colours, in third.

Josh Day beat Barney Cox and Ollie Feltham to be quickest junior rider, Barney breaking 30 minutes for the first time on the Wyke course.
Jane Pritchard was fastest of the five women riders, Jane also taking first place in the Vets on Standard competition for the second week in a row.  This series currently stands as follows, Grahame Reed 441 points, Jane 435, Mike Donovan 403 and Pete Humphreys 394.

At last week’s Somerset RC Open 10, Alan Smith and John Phillips both set a good times of 26.17 and 27.14 for 32nd and 36th.  During his ride, John had the experience of being passed by Olympic gold medal winning Rebecca Romero on her way to setting a time of 21.46.  The overall winner was Luke Rowe (100% ME) who smashed the course record with 19.21.
The newly-formed Salisbury Road and Mountain bike club held an off-road time trial on Tuesday evening.  This was a 6 or so mile course in Grovely Woods near Wilton.  Nigel Brown broke the course record on his way to first place, with James Chant in second.  SRaM are holding this event on a monthly basis, as well as occasional tts.  Website here.  They are also involved with the organisation of this weekend’s Shaftesbury Cycle Revival events, details here
