Last Wednesday (16th) saw the final GDW event of the season, a hillclimb at Mere Hollow.  With the hillclimb series title already won by Simon Barfoot, the runner-up spots, ladies’ championship and junior’s championship were all up for grabs.  The riders had to tackle a full-on headwind over the course, with most people between 30 seconds and a minute slower than normal.  Nigel Brown set the fastest time with 5.53, the only rider to get under 6 minutes, and his second win of the season was enough to give him second in the championship.  Next up was James Chant ending the hillclimb season as he began with a second place – shame about the ones in between!  Vince Hounsome was third and was also third in the championship.
Sarah Roberts and Jane Pritchard were very closely matched again, Jane was quickest on the night with Sarah winning the ladies’ series, while Josh Day recorded an excellent time to finish fifth overall and be the fastest junior.  Josh and Tom Brown were left equal on points, wins and head-to-head results for the series.
The final points tables and times are here

Elsewhere, Charles Rees has headed back to Uni in Cardiff and is flying the Wheelers’ flag in the BC races held at Maindy.  Racing in with the 2nd cats, Charles has finished third and fifth so far and is just a handful of points away from gaining a 2nd cat licence after starting the season in the 4ths.
Chris Mullett was the sole GDW representative at the Omega RC Thruxton race last weekend and followed up his recent run of tt p.bs by finishing well in the bunch sprint.  Chris was particularily pleased with this as this was the first time he has managed to stay with the front of the field until the end of a race.
Paul Hopkins scored an impressive second in the recent Wessex Cycle League road race near Wimborne.  Some sterling teamwork by the rest of the Offcamber riders brought back a break on the last lap and gave Paul the chance to sprint to the line with Team Torq rider Tim Dunford, who just beat Paul at the end.

In the double header 10 and 25 mile tts run by Andover Wheelers, Alan Smith recorded two very good times with a 23.56 in the 10 and 1.04.10 in the 25, while Simon Rouse (Severn RC) finished in 22.56 and 1.02.05 and Stuart Kerton (now with Chippenham Wheelers) recorded 21.58 and 58.55.
A week later on the same course, Sotonia CC held a 25 tt and Simon Rouse improved a lot to come home in 59.32, Sarah Roberts got within 20 seconds of her p.b with 1.12.16 while James Chant went home fed up after finishing in 1.03.02.
Alan Smith was also in action at the Severn RC 50 mile tt and was 46th out of 61 finishers with a time of 2.11.05.
