The club had its first hillclimb event at Bulbarrow today, and although only a few riders took part they all enjoyed it.

James Chant was hampered a little by having to use his tt bike but was quickest on both the Woolland and Stoke Wake climbs to win overall.  Jon York and Scawen Roberts were closely matched, setting identical times on the Stoke Wake hill.  Jon took second overall after setting the quicker time at Woolland.
Toby Easby was the only junior rider present and did well for fourth overall with Patrick Lockyer riding over form Bournemouth to take fifth.
Of the women riders, Leah Newing took a wrong turn on the Woolland hill but was able to beat Sarah Roberts overall after catching her on the second climb.
Afterwards, the competitors and spectators enjoyed some really good cakes in the HQ which won’t help at all when they are next riding up a hill.

James has also been taking part in a couple of two up team time trials recently.  He teamed up with Chris Mullett at TLI’s National 2 up championships near King’s Somborne where they tackled a hilly 20 kms course.  They worked well together and completed the course in 33.25 for ninth place out of 15 teams.
James then joined forces with Sarah Wheeler at the Bournemouth Women’s CA 10 mile two up for male and female pairs.  Despite a delay at around halfway, Sarah and James finished in fifth place out of the 17 teams with a time of 26.03
Stuart Kerton continues to set some fast times in Open events.  Stuart has completed another two 25 mile events under the hour, with a 57.31 at Usk in Wales on a very windy day.  He then managed a 55.29 on the fast R25/3L course near Hirwaun.   Stuart made the journey over to another fast course as well, the 10 mile F11/10 near Tring where he rode well to finish in 21.52.
Vince Hounsome and Chris Mullett were both in action at the recent Poole Wheelers 25 mile tt at Upton.  Conditions were very good, and both finished with quick times.  Vince got round in 58.00 while Chris recorded a course best time of 1.02.59.
While some were slogging up Bulbarrow, Chris Mullett and John Phillips travelled to Wales to have a go at getting some fast times in the Cardiff 100 Miles CC Open 10 mile TT.  A 100 riders enjoyed good weather but with a tricky breeze affecting the slightly uphill outward leg.  The R10/17 course is a straight forward out and back on the fast A40 Abergevenny to Raglan dual carriageway.   Both did well with John just 5 seconds off his PB finishing in 26:23 and Chris 17 seconds off his PB in 24:14.  Sarah Roberts and Steve Way also recorded quick times on this course earlier this season and, weather permitting it’s usually well worth the trip.
