More Race Wins for the Wheelers

Both James Gray and Charles Rees scored road race wins in the last week.  James became the third Wheeler to win at Ilton this season, breaking away shortly after a mid-race sprint prime to take a clear solo win.  James will now be moving up to 3rd cat.  Chris Mullett was also at Ilton and finished with the main bunch.
Charles got his win at the Moreton crit race last night, winning a very high speed sprint from the leading bunch of around thirty riders.  Kim Little also made the top ten while James Chant and Jerry Cooper both got caught the wrong side of a mid-bunch crash with two laps to go which split the field into two similarily-sized groups.

At Monday night's hillclimb, junior rider Ashley Martin (Chippenham Wheelers) broke the five-minute barrier with a time of 4.57 to take first place ahead of James Chant.  James now leads the points series while Simon Rouse was third despite the efforts from doing a 50 mile tt in Wales the day before.  Josh Day finished fourth (5.23) while Richard Hansford managed a pb (6.10).
Charles Rees knocked an incredible two minutes from his Bruton course pb on Wednesday, finishing in 45.00 to win by a clear three and a half minutes from Kim Little.  Charles is clearly in top form and is hoping to carry that through to the British Time Trial Championships at the beginning of September in Wales, where he will be competing in the Espoir category for the second year.  Vince Hounsome was third at Bruton, just ahead of Shaun Walsh (Yeovil CC).  Most riders were a little slower than usual due to a difficult headwind in the middle third of the course but as well as Charles, both Alex Walsh (Yeovil CC) and Josh Day (fastest junior) finished with new course best times.
Both the hillclimb and Bruton tt details can be seen here.
The current entry list for the BTTC already features a lot of top riders and can be seen here
