posted 6 Jun 2011, 12:45 by James Chant   [ updated 6 Jun 2011, 23:49 ]
Rapid Bristol South CC rider Paul Jones was the winner at tonight's hillclimb.  Paul set a very quick 4.33 but afterwards said there was more to come and he's planning to return for a crack at Kim Little's course record.  Josh Day was second, despite suffering from crashing into a tree at yesterday's Southern XC mountain bike race, with Kim Little third.  Well done to John Phillips, Jane Pritchard, Barney Cox and Pete Humphreys who all recorded pb times.

There were several Wheelers in action at the Southern XC mtb event.  This was Round Three of the series and was held at Crow Hill near Ringwood.  Paul Hopkins (riding for Merida UK) took part in his second race at Elite level, coming home in 9th after five laps and the best part of two hours of racing.  Emma Bradley (WXC Racing) was also in with the Elites, finishing third after an early mechanical problem.
Kim Little rode a strong race and finished 5th in the Masters' race with Julian Chown 23rd of the 30 starters while James Chant took part in his first ever mtb race  James was 9th from 27 starters in the entry-level, 2 lap Fun race.
Andy Parsons and Nigel Brown were entered in the Vets' race and came home in 14th and 15th, though Any had been well-placed in the top 10 until a last lap puncture.
Nigel's son Tom was 10th in the Juniors' race with Josh Day a non-finisher after a second lap crash.  In the Juvenile event, winner of the Youth section of the GDW mtb Winter Series, Lawrence Pitman,   was third.

Salisbury Plain and Area Mountainbike Club held their annual enduro event at Erlestoke recently, competitors given the choices of 6 or 12 hour races and whether to ride solo or in pairs.  For some reason, Tom Brown went for the solo 2 hour option and did brilliantly well to get 15th place at the finish  Nigel Brown also got a good result.  He had teamed up with one of the SPAM riders in the 6 hour Pairs race, getting 2nd place while Emma Bradley competed in the 6 hour mixed pairs race with 15 year-old Ed Sadd.  They came home in 3rd, punctures having cost them a second-placed finish.

If you fancy trying out some off-road action, tonight, (Tues), Salisbury Road and Mtb club are holding an mtb time trial at Grovely Woods near Wilton.  Meet at Wilton Shopping Village car park at 1830, first rider off at 1900.
