Gillingham TT

posted 30 May 2014, 00:11 by James Chant   [ updated 31 May 2014, 00:13 ]
It was a bit of a grim evening for cycling at this week's tt, heavy rain reducing the field down to 21 riders tackling the Gillingham 10 mile course.  The absence of some of the usual front runners meant a bit of a points bonanza for those that did come along.  Most riders were a little slower than the previous week's event but Jay Hookins still set a very quick time of 23.10 to leave him more than one and a half minutes clear of second placed Paul Caton.  Vince Hounsome was the quickest of the GDW riders in third.

Jane Pritchard headed the ladies' times, Jenny Lucas was second while Lynn Broom knocked over a minute off of her time from last week.

James Hywel-Davies was quickest junior to keep the pressure on Barney Cox in the championship.  James was followed by George Smith and James Geddes, who set a course pb.

Thanks to Mike, Don, Roger Vic and Dave for timing etc in the horrible weather.

Video here.  There are a lot of riders not checking for traffic on this video - it's the responsibility of the rider to make sure the road is safe to pull out into, not the marshal's. If the marshal has missed something and some sort of crash ensues then the rider will be liable. And squashed.

Next week we will be on the Bruton course, Roger won't be with us for the next two tts so we need time keepers and marshals, please let me know if you can do either of these jobs.
